HeyGen: AI Videos
HeyGen is one of my favorite AI tools. It’s a video platform that offers lifelike avatars and high-quality voices. My current team and I use it a lot to add a dynamic, engaging element to web-based training. The videos here are not from my team’s projects but my own creations for teaching.
Google Notebook LM
I like Google NotebookLM. It’s great for creating study guides, key points documents, summarizing dense information, creating quick FAQs, etc. I love it most for its ability to create engaging “deep dive” podcasts. These are some podcasts I’ve created lately for a composition course I teach, instructional design concepts, and radiation risks (for a Gamma Cell course I helped revise for the CDC.) [These are just 2-minute samples.]

This is a hover / hot spot function I created for an interactive syllabus I was working on. I had a challenge of audio continuing to play on one hot spot even after I moved to another square to hover over, but I was able to fix that by creating a condition that stops the audio if a different square is hovered on.
Button Set Selected
This is a button set I created. The learner selects the name of a person on a button. This changes the state of the character on the screen. Audio plays and text appears in the dialogue bubble on screen. Also, the selected button is highlighted.
Simple Hotspot
This is a simple hotspot I created. Interactions like these are good for assessing whether a learner can correctly identify something on an image, diagram, map, or other graphic. They receive feedback right away.

An interaction that allows learners to select items in a list.
Drag & Drop
I enjoyed making this for a summary writing module I was working on. Drag and drop is a great interaction type for learners. It can be good for sorting correct and incorrect items or showing the correct order of a process.
Characters Interacting
A fun little interaction I created, setting timed conditions for when one character speaks (after the other finishes speaking). The characters also change positions and facial expressions as part of the exchange.
Dial Function & Layers
This is a dial interaction that uses layers. Dial functions tend to be good for letting learners manipulate data, explore cause/effect relationships, or control objects in a course.
Custom Drag & Drop
This is a “custom” drag and drop. Storyline has a quick drag & drop option, but there is also a way for a developer to create a custom drag & drop starting with shapes.
Marker Function, Dial, and Changing States
This is the marker function. This is a good interaction for learners to obtain information about parts of something, or locations within a room or other area.
Articulate Rise: Roaring 20s Learning Module
This is a learning module I created using Articulate Rise. I wrote and edited all the learning content and image captions. This module includes knowledge checks.
Flash Cards & Tab Blocks
I created a learning module with a baseball theme. This sample features flash cards for the learner to “turn over” and get more information about players. The tabs function is used to make hefty text content less overwhelming to learners.
Scenario Block
This is a scenario assessment I created for a University of Houston-Clear Lake (UCHL) professor for a job analysis assignment in a Human Resource Management course. The learner selects the best course of action or decision and receives immediate feedback.
Marker Block
This implements the marker function in Rise. I like creating these types of interactions when presenting learners with parts of a larger system or a diagram of some sort.
