Just returned from one of my favorite places in Houston – Cedar Creek Cafe. It’s off 20th St. in an area known as “Shady Acres” – northwest part of the Heights.
It’s been one of my favorite haunts for a few years now. What I like about it is the big patio area. It’s expansive, and when weather is nice, as it was tonight, it’s a joy being out there soaking in the vibes and perhaps catching a Rockets or Astros game.
I haven’t tried everything on the menu, but what I’ve had has been delicious. It’s been a while since I got one of their salads, but I did a while back. I can’t remember which one exactly, but it had shrimp in it. Very generous portion size. Definitely was three meals – for me, anyway. I also love this place’s buffalo wings. Their chicken tenders are likewise great.
Elote quesadillas one of my friends had tonight.

These are my wings!

[Another good place for wings in Houston is Max’s Wine Dive (Washington Avenue)]
Anyway, Cedar Creek Cafe is a laid-back, fun place where you don’t have to dress up. The people working there are nice. I’ve been to Cedar Creek at least ten times in the past couple years and have always had good, friendly service. Pleasant people take your order. Food and drinks come out quickly. The volume of music is moderate; you hear it but can also hear the conversation of people you’re with.
